With effect from May 1, 2019, SBI pays interest at the rate of 3.25 per cent on account balances above Rs 1 lakh. SBI's interest rate for savings account deposits above Rs 1 lakh will attract an interest rate of 2.75 per cent below the repo rate, according to the bank's corporate website - sbi.co.in. SBI savings accounts interest rate for online as well as offline accounts is 4% per annum if the balance in the account is above Rs. 1 crore. For balances up to Rs. 1 crore, the rate of interest provided is 3.5% per annum. Interestingly, as per the current repo rate, SBI's savings accounts with over Rs 1 lakh deposits will (from May 1, 2019 ) earn less interest than those with smaller balances in their accounts and also 0.75 percent less than the 4 percent being offered on post office savings account. Under this change, customers with saving bank account balance of Rs. 1 crore and above will continue to earn interest at 4% per annum.
